JavaJunkies Post FAQ
What Should be Posted in The Grinder?
The Grinder should be used for anything technically
related to Java programming (i.e. JSP, servlets, applets, EJB's, etc.).
What Should be Posted in Coffee Talk?
Coffee talk should be used for Java related discussions, thoughts, or
meditations. This is also the place where changes to the Java Junkies web site
itself are discussed.
What Causes a Post to Disappear? If a post is way off topic and is deemed
inappropriate, it may be removed by the gods. To avoid a post from being reaped, please try to keep posts under
the correct section (although, if a post is accidently misposted - we can move it for you) and on topic. From
time to time, if a post is marked "OT:" - that is fine, as long as it seems appropriate.
Also, if a post has been deemed inappropriate by other users with a high negative value, it will be removed.
If you're confused about a topic, please feel free to ask one of the gods or other users.
What Happens if I Accidently Double Post or Post an Empty Node?
If you happen to make a mistake and double post or post an empty node, please inform one of the gods with
a /msg. We'll take care of it for you. In the future, there may be a system in which you can
request nodes to be deleted - if a mistake occurs.
Remember that JavaJunkies is a Community
Remember that this is a community of Java programmers, please respect the fellow users here. No name calling or
flame wars. If there is a problem, please inform one of the gods.
How do I contribute to
the Library O Java?
The Library is
maintained by the documentation group. These are the librarians of Java Junkies
and maintain this section. Message any of the librarians with the information
about your proposed tutorial and to receive instructions about what to do next.
Most submissions are posted for comments in The Grinder. After the comment process
is complete (and the author has gotten their due in XP) the tutorial, along with
any modifications from the comment process, comes here to live.
There's something wrong
with a tutorial or reference document's information!
We, of course, try very
hard to ensure the accuracy of the reference material you find here on the Java
Junkies web site. If you find a mistake, you can tell anyone in the documentation
group about the problem and they will respond appropriately. If you have any comments or input on any of the tutorials in the Library, there is a link at the bottom of each of the nodes which says "Comment on this Tutorial." By clicking that node, you will be linked to the original tutorial as posted in the Grinder. Feel free to post to your heart's content and /msg the tutorial owner so that he/she can take the appropriate action based upon your input.
Ownership of the Library
Each article remains the
property of the author. Authors who submit tutorials and/or reference materials
for comment grant the Java Junkies web site the non-exclusive right to post
those tutorials in the Library O Java. In other words, you do not
have the right to reproduce these materials without the express permission of
the individual authors.
How Did I Gain or Lose Experience?
Each user's experience points can be affected by other users voting on their
nodes. Things you
get points for :
- Until you reach level
5, you get a 25% chance of gaining 2 xp when you log in.
- You have a chance of
gaining 2 xp the first time someone votes on a note you create.
- You have a 25% of gaining
an experience point when voting on someone else's node
- There is a complex formula
that gives you a percentage chance of gaining or losing XP based on the reputation
of your node and the average reputation of all other nodes on the site.
As you can see, you get
votes when you write something that other members of JavaJunkies find useful
or interesting and you get votes by building the community. Community means
'showing up' and helping to determine the value of other's posts.
Work In Progress - feel free to /msg me to let me know what should
be added. - Moon
